Ākonga Eligibility
for AE Support
Our mission is to support the needs of ākonga (young people) who are from all communities in central and east Auckland. If a young person in Year 9, 10, or 11 is at risk and is struggling with school or has already disengaged, our ACES Alternative Education programme could be the right fit for them. To find out more or to start the AE Referral > Enrolment process, please read the information below and get in touch with us. We're here to help guide you: the school, whānau, caregiver or professional every step of the way.

Supporting Ākonga Success
Supporting Ākonga Success
We understand that transitioning to a new school environment can be a big step for a young person and their family. Our "Moving IN" process is designed to be a warm and supportive experience, ensuring ākonga feels secure and well-cared for from day one.
After we receive a Request for AE Support, a member of our Student Support team will meet with you for an initial hui (meeting). Together, we will gather all the necessary information about your ākonga. With their guidance and kōrero (conversation), we will complete the enrolment application. From this, we'll create a comprehensive Individual Education Plan (IEP) or CAP Aims, which are specifically designed to support ākonga's educational growth and help them transition smoothly back to a mainstream setting if that is their goal.
Our dedicated Student Support Team works closely with local schools, whānau, caregivers, and professionals. We believe this collaborative and holistic approach is key to supporting your ākonga's development and ensuring a smooth transition into our alternative education learning space.

Caring for Specific Needs
of our Learners
For ākonga with specific needs, such as those who are neurodiverse or have multiple agencies involved in their care, our Pedagogical Leader, will organize a Professionals' Hui. This is a collaborative meeting with everyone involved in the child’s support network. In this meeting, we’ll clarify who's responsible for what, identify the resources we can provide, and create essential plans, like a Behavioural Management Plan, to ensure a smooth and strong transition for the young person into our school.
